Paint The Town Orange: Dinosaur Jr.
April 11th, 2009 - Otto's Bar - Dekalb, IL - Dinosaur Jr. w/ Awesome Color
When I set out Saturday night to attend a small venue performance by a band that has been my hands down favorite for nearly twenty years the thought that crossed my mind, as "Little Furry Things" blared through my car speakers, was what keeps them going. Why, after 25 years, would J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph travel across the country to play Otto's in DeKalb, IL?

Paint the Town Orange: Mountains
February 26th, 2009 - The Stone - Alphabet City, NYC - Mountains
The Brooklyn duo, Mountains, performed their dreamy, lush, experimental sound pieces for a rapt, capacity crowd at The Stone in Alphabet City on Thursday night. The occasion was the cd release party for their new record, Choral (Thrill Jockey), and it's not a stretch to say that for just over a half an hour they had the audience under a spell.

Paint the Town Orange: Witch/Earthless

February 25, 2009 - Music Hall of Williamsburg - New York - Witch with Earthless
Images by Dominick Mastrangelo
Witch released their latest album Paralyzed nearly a year ago, and the sound they created is still evolving and growing. A blend of a upbeat punk rhythms with episodes of ranging guitar solos. It's loud, but the grooves is never buried. Formed by J Mascis and Dave Sweetapple, Witch explores the fuzziest and loudest aspects of music.

Paint the Town Orange: High Places

February 13, 2009 - New Museum: Get Weird Series - New York, NY - High Places
Images and review by Dominick Mastrangelo
It's not often New York has a reason to be jealous of Los Angeles, but after Brooklyn's High Places performance last Friday at the New Museum, this, sadly, is one of those instances. Experimental soundscapers Mary Pearson and Rob Barber each have digs in L.A. now and with an extensive tour forthcoming that sees them head to Australia and then on to Scandinavia, the opportunities to see the band so regularly in New York are going to be scarce.
