Fresh Squeezed: Pooma

If you were a fan of music in the mid-ninties then may be familiar with the approach of Helsinki's Pooma. On their debut album, Persuader they weave a tapestry of the best elements of what once was called "Trip-Hop" and lay it perfectly beneath the angelic vocals of Tuire Lukka. The results are familiar, but still you can get a sense that this band is carving their own path through sounds that brought them here. Their debut album was produced and partly mixed by Gunnar Örn Tynes of the Icelandic band Múm, and released in Finland last year. Unfortunately the band's Finnish record label was closed down very shortly after the release of the album, so the work for the release outside Finland is only now starting.

Listening through the skilled production, beautiful beats, and complex noises of Persuader I know it is only a matter of time before it is picked up and released here in The States. Until that time you can enjoy this sample of the graceful melodies and majestic strings of Pooma.
