Bust Down The Doors and Eat All The Chickens #9 (Summer Edition)
I have had an electronic version of the latest collection of stories from Bust Down The Doors and Eat All The Chickens and Bradley Sands in my possession since last August. I have read the stories, reread some of the stories, but haven't written a review. Bradley has been very understanding and has only asked me about a handful of times. Finally, after this weeks follow-up I sat down and asked myself why have I not reviewed this collection.
It's not the quality of writing or writers, I mean you have the likes of Shane Jones, Ryan W. Bradley, Christopher Higgs, and more, but it has to be something. It's not that these stories are too abstract or challenging. Christopher Higgs does open the collection by receiving a metaphor for his birthday, but that is not too abstract. Most gifts or actions by wives can be boiled down to a metaphor anyway. It really is a clever way to approach relationships when you think about it. Sean Casey follows with an almost stream-of-consciousness look at a day in his life, and from it we receive this line that I am bound to use in conversation, "My family is so flipping important to me. Without my family I would not be a family man, and only family men are elected governor, and mainly governors are elected president, and I think I want to be president." Next come a piece by Ben Stein (I am sure it not that Ben Stein, but that is who I picture), who presents a children's play of sorts. It's challenging, perhaps, but not what would trigger a delay of 6 months in the review process.
"We've killed almost every platypus. We've used their bills for shoes and their fur for coats and hats." Shane Jones describes the plight of the platypus and I read on. The platypus still makes me think of Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood after all these years. It is a wonderful centerpiece to the collection. My favorite story of the collection, however, is the one page piece from Ryan Bradley explain the need to capture the sad giraffe demographic when marketing your product. "We think outside the outside of the box".
So, why haven't I reviewed the ninth collection stories from Bust Down The Doors and Eat All The Chickens? Well, I think I just have. Bradley said this week that there are still copies available, so if you haven't purchased one please go do so now.
