The Orange Spotlight
Travis Jeppesen "Dicklung & Others" Blatt Books (Nov. 2009)
Travis Jeppesen is a universe of contradictions. In his latest collection, Dicklung & Others, he combines the profound with the premature to create a journey that is at times unsettling and at times insightful and enjoyable. What is jarring at first is the fact that you have no idea what word may be coming next. He combines thoughts and strings words together that seemingly have to business even being on the same page together, and then uses these adolescent words but it all seems to work.
from "The Shadow Dearly"
The true form recognizes the endness
through endless spirals.
The loathe regime
coming through dark corridors
altogether.
The banners proclaim their longing
to blow up truth.
History learns a lesson,
too fast to know,
glowingly.
He can show flashes of introspection and contemplation and then throw out wildly almost nonsensical language. Whether slipping in the word fart or gnarly perm or the many times pornography is mention, Travis seems to continually win the battle between a raw collection of words and organized original thought.
