Street Art Classes at The Galaxie - Revise CMW - Chicago
Street Art doesn't seem like a legally valid class, but if someone was going to teach one it should be Revise CMW. As one of the top street artists in the city and co-founder of Urban Art Chicago, Revise has been running a variety of students through his classes for a while now. Here is how Revise approaches the class, “I try and tell students on their first day to forget everything they think graffiti and street art is, because chances are that their perceptions of who we are and what we do, are probably wrong,”. Street art has exploding in popularity over the last few years and more and more cities and companies are commissioning work on a regular basis. Street art is usually defined as any art placed in the public way, including posters, murals, stencil fills, and stickers, and is different than graffiti. It is a fascinating approach to sharing your art with the world.
heir next round of Street Art Classes starts Sunday, June 14th from 3 to 5pm, and runs for 4 Sundays ending on July 12th (no class Sunday, July 5th). The Galaxie is located at 2603 W Barry Ave, Chicago IL 60618. The cost is $125.00 which includes the cost of most materials (students are just asked to bring a marker and sketchbook.) You can sign up and find out more information here.
Peter Barrett and Sarah Hicks - Taxonomies - June 19 through August 1, 2009 - Thomas Robertello Gallery - Chicago
Barrett and Hicks combine painting (Barrett) and sculpture (Hicks) to create a balance between 2-D and 3-D creations. Both graduates of School of the Art Institute, they both battles with known forms with complex permutations, and exploring fascinations with object obsession and indexical classifications. The patterns that will be echoing through the galley will be endless. The show will focus on details and how various pieces and designs come together.
