The Music Minute

Arkansas is home to the latest singer/songwriter to show a full rainbow of Chameleon colors, Chase Pagan. On his forthcoming album “Bells & Whistles”, Chase displays everything from a soulful honk-tonk to a vibrant folk troubadour to a soaring falsetto. Complete with marching band horns, piano, pysc guitars, this album is diverse, but still simple at its core.

Much like Chase Pagen, Linfinity displays many different styles while they jump through eras, show their influences, and entertain the crowds. While their forthcoming album is still untitled, the band has offered a sample of what’s to come.

A ‘60’s jam band with the name of Still Flyin’ it seems somehow fitting. This is backyard keg music, this is dancing in a circle while holding hands music, this is taking a trip to another era music. It is clearly a formula for success, pop-infused melodies, male-female vocals, so why not follow that formula? Wild Moccasins began started when couple, Cody Swann & Zahira Gutierrez started writing songs two years into their relationship. Not long after they recruited friends Andrew Ortiz, Nicholas Cody, and Andrew Lee to fill in the blanks. The band’s new self-released record, "Microscopic Metronomes" out now, and if you have not had a listen then you need to check out the single below.

The debut album from Quest For Fire is a dark, psychedelic journey through lakes of fire and stream feverish reverb. Andrew Moszynski (guitar), Chad Ross (guitar, vocals), Mike Maxymuik (drums), and Josh Bauman (bass) have that last held captivate in studio trying to capture the epic nature of their live performances. With songs stretching to the 10+ minute mark, they have captured the force perfectly.

If you watch “Yes, Man” with Jim Carey and Zooey Deschanel then you have already seen and heard what Von Iva is all about. In the movie Zooey sang with a band called Munchausen by Proxy, but really her backing band was Von Iva. The bands most recent release was self-released EP, "Girls on Film" released back in October. They are currently on tour with Minn. Sick of Sarah and LA’s Gliss on what they are calling the Emerald Tour. The tour stops here in Chicago on May 5th at Schuba’s.

One of the newest signings to Saddle Creek Records, The Rural Alberta Advantage, is a DIY success dating back to Toronto 2003. The band has been working hard on refining their and sound and found their first bit of success last November when they signed with e-music. The momentum carried them through sxsw this year and has landed them directly in the arms of Saddle Creek. It’s hard to call them a buzz band but with their first proper label release coming this summer I don’t know what else to call them.
