Fresh Squeezed: The Sky Drops
It's not that I am only drawn to bands to make interesting and inventive videos, it that these video really help explain the music and for the most part the bands intent when they created the songs. A band that has been releasing fascinating videos for the last couple years is Delaware's The Sky Drops. It began with the psychedelic sound and video for "Hang On" from the bands five song debut ep self-released under Fridabear Records in 2006. Rob Montejo and Monika Bullette were instantly a duo on the rise.
While working on the follow-up last year, their debut full-length album Bourgeois Beat, Rob faced an unforeseen medical problem that left him unable to play guitar for most of the year. They completed the this year and finally released their dazzling, fuzzed-out, collection, this past August. The video that kick off this post is for their track "Stone White". It is their newest video, and it is a montage of Prelinger Archive clips. The first video to come from Bourgeois Beat is for the track "Truth Is", and was shot completely on Super 8mm at a strange and intriguing beach motel. The Sky Drops have that magical formula down, quality video, contagious songs, and the attitude to boot.
