Fresh Squeezed: Bonfire Madigan
When you think fiery and compelling indie pop you don't typically think cello, but Madigan Shive (aka Bonfire Madigan) has been working to change that a while now. Her music is a strange and fascinating mix of blues, punk, stage presentation, and fine orchestration. Starting on cello at the age of nine, she began her composing career at fifteen in the Pacific Northwest Riot Grrrl scene releasing music with seminal independent record labels K and Kill Rock Stars. Shive has gone on to establish herself as a singular and trailblazing performer, blending folk, art, punk, classical and avant-baroque styles. Her albums include Sew True, ...from the Burnpile, Saddle The Bridge, Plays For Change, and the recently reissued I Bleed: A Decade of Song; she is currently finishing her sixth full-length album, to be released in collaboration with her label, MoonPuss Music.
To preempt her new album, Maidgan has release an ep called Lady Saves. The ep was produced by San Francisco Studio Paradiso engineer Shawn Biggs (Little Echoes), features remixes by London based, Ninja Tune/Mush recording artist Neotropic (Riz Maslen) and San Francisco’s Dub I.D. (a.k.a. DJ Tomas) of Voltage Music.
